No Power Displays

Bistable displays have the ability to retain their image without any power. The only time they require power is to change the image. With these displays one can gain significant power savings especially in applications where the on-screen image does not have to be updated frequently. Researchers at Motorola have stated that a battery operated PDA device with a bistable display can last 600 times longer than one with a regular LCD. Many display companies are now offering this technology including Varitronix, ZBD, Nemoptic, Kent Displays and LC-TEC. One example of the bistable technology is demonstrated in the MOTOFONE which uses what’s known as an electronic paper display provided by the E Ink Corporation.
